Plan your own culinary day trip in Pure Michigan: Part 2

While the season’s change, this may be great time to eat your way through your day.

In part one of this article, we discussed what a culinary day trip is. In this part, we will provide a few tips on planning your culinary day trip.

Here are a few tips to do this.

  1. Grab a map: Grab a current map of Michigan and identify your range. Typically, you can make a good day out of a 100-mile range. This is personal preference, though, and you may either want to stay closer, or even want to make a weekend out of it.
  2.  Search using the Internet: There a several great web resources out there to help plan your trip. Most communities have active websites for their Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Chambers of Commerce, Downtown Development Authorities or Business Associations with resources and recommendations on what to do while visiting their community.

Here are just a few examples of websites designed to help design your trip. The US-23 Heritage Route website or the West Michigan Tourist Association website, the Pure Michigan Trip Planner tool or the Pure Michigan “Foodie Tours” link, are all good resources to help plan your trip. There are several more great resources out there, so feel free to explore.
  3. Make a plan: This is personal preference how important a structured plan is…some prefer to just a take it as you go, others prefer a rigid agenda and many prefer a hybrid approach. Regardless of how you decide, because some destinations are very seasonal in nature, it would be a good practice to make a tentative plan and research the hours of the locations you plan to visit.

Do not forget to plan where to stop and experience local cuisine, wines, and brews. This is a great excuse to step out of your comfort zone and try something new—After all, April is “Michigan Wine Month” so why not take advantage until the weather improves.
  4. Get up and Go— Enjoy!
  5. Share Your Experience: Do not forget to share your experience. Taking a picture and posting on your preferred social media sites is a great way to not only share your experience, but to also help promote a local Michigan business.

Michigan is great state to take a day trip and experience something new every time. Get out and enjoy!
