Refresh MI Store and Refresh MI Pantry are initiatives, where educators provide food retail sites and pantries with coaching and resources to help store owners modify environments to help local residents have increased access to nutritious options.

How does it work?

To identify suggested areas of improvement, MSU Extension educators will support store owners in assessing the store environment for established healthy store practices. These practices include promoting and labeling nutritious items, displaying nutrition information and food safety practices.
Following the assessment process, store owners will have the opportunity to choose five of the identified areas that they wish to improve. MSU Extension educators will provide ongoing support and connect store owners with appropriate educational tools and resources so they can implement modifications in their chosen areas. After a three-month period MSU Extension educators will follow up with store owners to discuss their progress.
